The essence of temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disorder, with excessive mechanical stress being a significant cause of the disease. BRD4, short for Bromodomain-containing protein 4, belongs to the BET protein family. The BET family comprises four proteins, namely BRD2, BRD3, BRD4, and BRDT, which share a conserved modular structure consisting of two N-terminal tandem BRD effector domains and an additional C-terminal motif.
