Mesothelin is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored cell surface glycoprotein. The MSLN gene is located at 16p13.3 and encodes the MSLN precursor protein, which is proteolytically cleaved to yield two protein products: megakaryocyte potentiating factor and mesothelin.
