VEGF-A precursor mRNA generates multiple subtypes through alternative splicing, and VEGF121 is one of the most widely distributed subtypes, consisting of 121 amino acids. Its molecular structure is characterized by the lack of a heparin binding domain, which makes it mainly exist in soluble form in body fluids and can be widely distributed through blood circulation, forming a sharp contrast with subtypes containing heparin binding domains such as VEGF165.
