Interleukin-2 (IL-2) is a protein comprising 133 amino acid residues with a molecular weight of 15.5 kDa. IL-2 is structurally composed of a core of four alpha helices and beta strands. It is primarily produced by antigen-activated Th1 CD4+ T cells, with additional production by CD8+ T cells and natural killer (NK) cells.
